Tour Overview

Get picked up in the morning from our starting point at the National Theater or your hotel in Sofia and head southeast along the Iskar river and reservoir into the breathtaking scenery of Rila mountain. Get all necessary clothing and gear for skiing or snowboarding and head with your instructor for the day to the beginners' training zone or take the gondola or any of the chair lifts to reach the higher ski centers for an unforgettable day on the slopes. Arrival in Sofia by 6 PM.

Borovets ski resort is a must experience journey for any true nature and winter sports lover. It is nestled in the highest mountain range in Bulgaria and on the entire Balkan Penisula - Rila mountain. You will have the whole day at your disposal to enjoy the three ski zones of Borovets ski resort - Sitnyakovo, Yastrebets, and Markudzhik,  or to take your first-ever ski or snowboard lessons. At the end of the day, you will be tired but happy and satisfied. This day will probably be the highlight of your amazing Bulgarian adventure.

What to Bring

National Theatre in Sofia: 5 "Dyakon Ignatiy" str, Sofia. Hotel pickups are available on request.

Every day at 7:20 AM from December to April. Hotel pickups from 7:00 to 7:20 AM.

Layered clothing, snacks, drinking water (preferably reusable water bottle)

  • Basic package + lessons - 125 euro per person

Includes English-speaking tour guide, transportation, half-day all-access Borovets ski pass, hire of ski or snowboard, boots, poles, helmet, 4 hrs of group ski lessons or 2 hrs of group snowboard lessons

  • Additional equipment and services

  1.  Hotel pick-up and drop-off​ - 6 euro per person

  2.  Hire of gloves - 5 euro 

  3.  Hire of goggles - 5 euro 

  4.  Hire of pants - 5 euro 

  5.  Hire of jacket - 5 euro

  6.  Purchase of a pair of long ski socks - 10 euro

Additional information

  • Payment can be processed via bank transfer, PayPal or in cash to the driver on the day of the trip (both euro or leva). 

  • Departure every day from December to April from the National Theater at 7:20 AM. Hotel pick-up and drop-off is offered at an additional cost of 6 EUR per person.

  • Trip duration: 10 to 11 hours including transfers. Expected return in Sofia by 18:00 PM

  • Transfers duration: 80 min per direction.

  • Trip schedule:​​​     

7:00 - 7:20: Hotel pick-ups.

7:20: Pick-up from the National Theater, Sofia.

8:50: Getting all necessary gear and equipment

9:15: Start of the lessons or free time on the slopes. Lunch break.

9:15 - 16:00 : Having fun on the slopes.

16:00: Return of the gear and departure to Sofia

18:00: Arrival in Sofia, drop-off at your hotel or the National Theater​​​

Borovets ski resort

Borovets is the oldest and the biggest ski resort in Bulgaria and is located at 1300m above sea level on the northern slopes of the majestic Rila Mountains, at the foot of Mount Musala, the highest peak on the Balkans. The climate in the resort is temperate; the winters are soft and with copious snowing. The average January temperature in Borovets is about 4.8° C. The ski season usually lasts from the middle of December to April. 58 km of ski slopes are spread over three ski centers - Yastrebetz, Sitnyakovo, Markudjik. The longest run is 12 km. 160 snow-making guns cover 60% of its ski area with technical snow. The skiing area is 1,340m - 2,560m of altitude. Easily accessible from all over the country - the distance from Sofia to Borovets is just 70 km, from Plovdiv to Borovets - 120 km.

Ski information

The altitude of Borovets ski resort is 1300 m. The average snow-blanket thickness during the ski season is more than 1,5 m. Ski season lasts from December to April. Highest skiing point - 2560 m above sea level. There are 58 km of marked ski runs in Borovets with the longest one 12 km. There are electrical lights for night skiing in the resort.

Sitnyakovo Ski Center - from 1350 to 1780 m above sea level (night skiing)

Yastrebets Ski Center - from 1340 to 2369 m above sea level

Markudzhik Ski Center - from 2144  to 2560 m above sea level

The resort offers a variety of accommodation facilities, super-fast lifts, ski school, children snow park, adventure center.
